Here are a few simple things that you can do at home to be a more successful 5th grader:
    • Read, read, and read some more!- The number one thing you can do to be a good reader is to find books that you love to read. Be sure to log your reading!
    • Create a journal.- Get into the routine of writing down your thoughts. Be creative! Be descriptive! Begin your sentences with a capital letter and end your sentences with a punctuation mark!
    • Practice your math facts- Use flash cards to practice your basic multiplication and division facts. The better you know them, the easier the harder stuff will be.
    • Review your science and social studies materials often.- Read through your notes from class for a few minutes. Then ask mom, dad, brother, sister, or friend to quiz you from the handouts. Make a game of it. On science days, review social studies. On social studies days, review science. It doesn't take long, and the fresher the information stays in your head the easier it will come back to you in class.
    • Ask questions-This may sound like silly advice, but so many fifth graders stay confused rather than asking their teachers for help. Don't be afraid, we won't bite (hard)!
