Jackie Curley has been with the Academy of Science since its inception. She came from Fairfax County Public Schools where she taught for fourteen years. She has a master’s degree in science education and is endorsed in Biology and Chemistry. Among the subjects she has taught are: AP Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, all levels of Biology and Earth Science. Currently, she teaches the ninth grade integrated science curriculum and is director of research.In June 2012 Ms. Curley was selected for the Science Presidential Award for Math and Science Teaching for the state of Virginia. In 2008 she was awarded the National Association of Biology Teacher Virginia Outstanding Biology Teacher Award. She was the Teacher-of-the-Year at Oakton High School in (2000) and a Teacher-of-the-Year finalist for Fairfax County Public Schools (2000). She has served as a teacher-fellow at NIH as well as an AP reader. She has been nominated for "Who's Who Among Teachers" in 2002, 2003, and 2005. She has also received the Al and Winnie Hodgson Award for excellence in teaching (2000-2001).
