Hello and welcome to BRHS! I am the College and Career Resource Transition Teacher at Broad Run High School, Farmwell Station Middle School, and Ashburn/Discovery/Dominion Trail Elementary Schools. The Transition Teacher is a Learning Specialist who supports students as they plan for life beyond high school.
For the 2018 - 2019 school year, I will be meeting with students on a regular basis through their study halls. I link students with adult service agencies and pre/post-secondary employment and training opportunities (i.e. situational and career assessments, vocational/technical education, apprenticeships, internships and college supports). I am the point of contact for referrals to the Department of Rehabilitative Services (DARS), the Community Services Board (CSB), the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act program (WIOA), the Communities and Schools Together program (CAST), Project Search, and the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC). The Transition Teacher works with a Job Coach (Mrs. Sherri Clear) to secure jobs and support students participating in work experience as part of their high school curriculum.I have a B.A. in Government from the University of Virginia. I earned a Masters in Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Masters in Special Education from George Mason University. I worked as a special education counselor and social worker for 14 years before moving into the Transition Teacher position. I have a Pupil Services/School Social Work/K-12 teaching license. This is my 17th year with LCPS! Previously, I worked with at-risk youth and families in a therapeutic shelter and foster care/adoption programs. On a personal note, I'm married with three children (12th, 8th, and 6th grades), a rescue greyhound, and two adopted kitties :-)
Please call or e-mail anytime for support related to transition services @ 571-252-2300. I love forming effective, collaborative relationships with colleagues, parents and students!
