    U.S. HISTORY TO 1865

I'm Mrs. Gavrin and I hope you have enjoyed this year in history class and learned lots of interesting things. Have a wonderful, restful summer and I'll look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

If you are new to Sterling Middle School, and to sixth grade, WELCOME!  You will find many useful tips on the school's main page directory, as well as supply lists for your upcoming school year.   Please try to have your supplies by the first day of class. There are lots of great bargains during the summer.

I will be your child’s tour guide through the events and personalities that shaped the United States, from its earliest beginnings, to the conclusion of the Civil War (1865).

This is my fourteenth year at Sterling Middle School, and seventeenth year as a public school educator. I hold an undergraduate degree in Art and Psychology from George Washington University, a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, and a Master’s degree in Education from Old Dominion University. I spent the beginning of my career in Fairfax County and have previously taught Elementary, sixth, and seventh grades.

My daughter, Chelsea (my pride and joy) is a graduate of LCPS (Stone Bridge High School class of 2007), and graduated from James Madison University in 2011, and from Syracuse University with her Master's Degree in 2013.

She and her husband, Josh (also a middle school history teacher, now a high school assistant Principal!) have a four-year-old little girl named Ava, who excitedly welcomed her new baby sister AND brother in November! The twins are now seven months old. They are all very busy and always keep me entertained.

You will find many useful resources throughout the year in the column to the left, including information about our school-wide grading and testing policy, as well as student resources in Google Classroom.

Please share any concerns or questions you might have by contacting me at  agavrin@lcps.org or by calling the school at 571-434-4520 and leaving me a brief message including when and where you can be reached. I will make every attempt to respond to you within 24 hours.

I'm looking forward to a great year with your student!
