I'm an English teacher. . .
I'm mentioning the obvious because it's such an important part of my life. I really enjoy teaching middle school, and I'm delighted to be teaching here at Blue Ridge.
I went to college at Vanderbilt University, where I majored in English (no surprise there) and East Asian Studies. One interesting thing about me is that I can speak Japanese, and that I lived in Japan for about a year and a half. Living in Japan was a wonderful experience, and teaching English there was what made me decide to make teaching my career. I went to graduate school at Syracuse University to get my master's degree and teaching certification. In 2007 I achieved National Board Certification in the area of Early Adolescence/ English Language Arts. In 2016 I renewed my certification through 2027.
As an English teacher, I am particularly interested in adolescent literacy – how and why teenagers read and write. I love teaching reading and writing workshop to my middle school students.
