Hi, my name is Paulette Reisman and I am very excited about the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. This is my ninth year in education; the last seven have been devoted to teaching students with special needs at River Bend Middle School.  I hold a Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Charleston in Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree from George Mason University in Special Education.  After spending more than 20 years in the private sector, I returned to my first love …” teaching kids!”

My teaching philosophy is simple … “all kids can learn and be successful with the right teaching environment and support.” It is my belief that when one meets the child at their academic level, differentiates instruction, and initiates personalized learning, all kids will achieve their greatest potential.  In my classroom, I promote and incorporate hands-on and interactive learning through various activities designed for students with special needs.  I am also a strong advocate for inclusive practices.  It has been my experience that all kids thrive when they learn together.  I have seen first-hand not only the academic growth, but the social and emotional growth of the students in my classroom when they have had the benefit of peer mentoring.  Through the advent of the Buddy Club, our students with special needs have become an integral part of River Bend and active participants in the school community.  In addition to their academic skills, I focus on functional life skills.  This is accomplished through Community-Independence-Instruction.

A little about me …. I am originally from West Virginia; I have lived in many major metropolitan cities and travelled extensively with my late husband both here and abroad. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, interior design, and traveling.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, if they arise, during the school year. I believe communication is the key to a successful middle school experience.

    Warmest Regards,

    Paulette
