Giuliana Lewis

Giuliana Jahnsen Lewis is excited and honored to be the new Assistant Principal at Sterling Middle School, a school that she has always kept in her heart. Prior to coming to Sterling, she served as the EL Instructional Facilitator and worked with all of the high schools in the county on providing support to schools.  Her focus has been supporting the instruction of English Learners, scheduling practices, and teacher/administrator support.

Mrs. Lewis served as a Middle School Dean at Sterling Middle School for several years where she worked with the English, Reading, Math, and EL departments. Prior to becoming a Dean, she worked as the EL Staff Development Trainer for Loudoun County Public Schools, in which she oversaw professional learning for educators across the county.  In addition, she supervised the creation and implementation of curriculum guides for grades KG through 12. Mrs. Lewis has also written curriculum for the district to serve secondary Newcomer ELs.  Mrs. Lewis has experience providing professional learning to educators at the district, state, and federal level.  All of these experiences are targeted to supporting ELs.  In addition, she has served as a member of LCPS Equity Committee representing the LatinX community.

Mrs. Lewis holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master's Degree in English as a Second Language Education/Linguistics from Marymount University. She received her Educational Administration and Leadership Degree from The George Washington University.

Mrs. Lewis arrived to the United States from Lima, Peru over twenty years ago.  She was a newcomer EL high school student in Loudoun County, she did not speak English and went through the process that many students go through when arriving into a new country.

Currently, she is researching ways to provide equitable instruction for EL students at the secondary level. This past summer, she published her first blog. Mrs. Lewis also serves as an educational consultant in which she trains and coaches educators around the country on best instructional practices in the classroom to master comprehension through the use of vocabulary instruction.

In her free time, Mrs. Lewis LOVES spending time with her family - playing with her children and spending time with her husband and parents… and eating Peruvian food!
