Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Lara Scanlon

I am excited about beginning my first year at Trailside Middle School as a Timberwolf!  I’m starting my twenty-eighth year of teaching with experience instructing first grade, fifth grade, and special education at the middle school and high school levels in Loudoun County and New York state.  Most of my positions have been in a departmentalized setting, teaching both mathematics and science. However, teaching mathematics is my true joy!

I grew up outside of Buffalo, NY, and attended school there.  I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the State University of New York at Fredonia and a Master’s degree in Special Education from the State University College of New York at Buffalo.

Outside of school, I live in Leesburg with my husband and two daughters, one of whom is a fourth year Biology student at University of Virginia and the other is a senior at Tuscarora High School. I enjoy traveling, dinners with my family, and hiking in different parks close to where I live.

I’m looking forward to working together with “the pack” to spark curiosity in and explore mathematics, applying what we learn to the world around us!
