Mr. Alexander Cheek

Hello, and welcome to 6th grade English!

I am Mr. Cheek, and I am excited to be a teacher in LCPS and a member of the Timberwolf Pack here at TMS. I graduated from Duquesne University with a bachelor's degree in English literature, from the School of Liberal Arts. I also minored in middle level education (4th-8th grade).

Though I studied English and teaching in college, my background in teaching began earlier in my life. At the age of 15 I became a summer camp counselor at the same facility I was training as a gymnast. There I learned how to work with a group of students, as well as athletes. This sparked a joy in coaching for me. From the age of 16-26 I was a gymnastics coach. I have worked with athletes from ages 5-18. I believe the many different coaching experiences I have had over the years has prepared me for my role as a 6th grade English teacher at Trailside Middle School.

My teaching philosophy is that every student should feel safe and welcomed in their learning environment. It is my duty as a teacher to not only enhance their abilities in reading, writing, etc., but to help create positive, respectful, accountable and collaborative life-long learners.
