Mrs. Courtney McCartney

This is my first year at Algonkian Elementary, but this will be my thirteenth year as a teacher in LCPS. I have been in 4th and 5th grade the entire time and have also worked as a special education teacher in those grades.

I graduated from Stone Bridge High School, so I am a "Loudoun grown" teacher. I attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia for both my Bachelors and Masters degrees (Go Dukes!) Since I majored in music and was a member of the Marching Royal Dukes, I still enjoy playing music. I live in Sterling with my husband, our spunky six-year old (Eleanor) who is in first grade, our one-year old (Maya), and our very loud rescue dog, Masha. 

As a teacher, I believe that it is not only my role to teach you math, reading, history, and science, but to develop a community where we can feel comfortable taking risks and meeting challenges head on. Learning is so much more than memorizing facts and we will learn to think critically about the world around us, all while appreciating each others' strengths and gifts in an inclusive environment. 

I can not wait to introduce you to your new school year! It is going to be a SUPER year!
