International Baccalaureate at Loudoun Valley High School
Loudoun Valley High School is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate World School offering the Diploma Program. Our program is available to rising 9th grade students throughout the county through the LCPS Pre-International Baccalaureate program (LCPS Pre-IB). The LCPS Pre-IB program further serves as a way to support students seeking the IB Diploma through 9th and 10th grade.
-
Why the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme?
-
An additional opportunity to earn college credit that is recognized worldwide.
-
The teaching and learning supported by the IB framework builds the skills necessary to be competitive in our ever changing world.
-
The IB framework drives students to think deeply and differently about the world and prepares them for their next steps beyond the classroom.
-
The International Baccalaureate focuses on authentic student-centered learning in a global context and aligns with our core values as a school.

-
International Baccalaureate (IB) is a rigorous educational program that develops the academic breadth and depth of a student’s intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills necessary to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.

-
What is the LCPS Pre-IB Program?
-
The LCPS Pre-IB Program is a mechanism that serves two purposes:
-
Provide a mechanism for students outside of the Loudoun Valley High School attendance zone from particular feeder schools to be able to access the Loudoun Valley High School Diploma program.
-
Serve as scaffolding to prepare students for the IB Diploma program.

Where are we now in the development of IB here at LVHS?
-
We are a fully authorized IB World School!
-
We are preparing for our new International Baccalaureate Course offerings starting in the 24-25 school year.
-
-
Where are we going?
-
We will build our understanding and readiness to engage in a full IB program and engage in a continuous, iterative, and reflective process to grow as a school.
-
We will continue to grow our program over the course of the next several years by expanding our course offerings.
-
-
Assessment
-
In addition to written exams in May, IB courses have a series of other internal assessments (scored by the course's teacher) and external assessments (scored by teachers in other parts of the world) are completed at various points of each class.
