Mr. Michael Comini

Born in Pittsburgh.  Attended Slippery Rock University and competed on the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics

Team and NCAA Judo Team.   In 1983 USA Men’s Regional All-Round Champion.

I Came to D.C. in 1984 to work for Glenn Construction.  Worked buildings around Dulles Airport and Tyson’s corner.  Glenn was instrumental in the development of the Herndon Parkway.  One project, The Tycon Building at Tyson’s corner (The one with the fancy arch) I was in charge of inspecting scaffolding and worked as a Bricklayer. For 20 yrs I have been in the construction industry working residential and commercial construction.  From 2013 to 2016 I worked for Moerhle Masonry on the construction of Rockridge, Riverside and Independence High Schools.

In 1987 I went to work as an Industrial Hygienists for Applied Environmental Health and Safety.

Worked mostly as an OSHA inspector for asbestos abatement projects. I collaborated with MIOSH and NIOSH on PPE procedures for working with Hazardous Materials.

I owned NVGA Gymnastics School in Sterling for 25yrs and was a USA Junior Olympic coach for Men’s Gymnastics. 17 young men in our program received Scholarships at Universities like Temple, Ohio State, Pitt, and Stanford.  Several competed for the Navy, Army and Airforce Academies.  Two went on to make the USA Mens Olympic team, one winning a Bronze Medal in the Bejing Olympics of 2008.

In 2014 I was inducted into the Herndon High School Hall of fame having coached boys teams that won 5 consecutive Virginia State Championships.

In 2017 as a career switcher. I hired at Freedom High School teaching technology  engineering and all forms of wood and metal shop. Many students  went onto trade and vocational schools, or entered engineering  programs at major universities.  Others own businesses in plumbing, welding, electronics and all forms of construction.  Many enter the upcoming field of Cyber Security as it becomes our area’s top employers.

Success is achieved through hard work and getting paid for something you enjoy doing. I look forward to working with the students of Parkview High School and being inspired by them. Stop by my room any time and say hi.
