    Hello Stars! :)

My name is Mrs. Opseth and I am one of the Reading Specialists here at Frederick Douglass. Prior to becoming a Reading Specialist, I taught 1st Grade in Frederick County, VA and Loudoun County, VA. Teaching reading was always my favorite part of the teaching day! I graduated from Shepherd University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, and received my Master's Degree as a Reading Specialist through Shenandoah University. Instilling a love of reading in children is my passion!!

Last year my husband and I were blessed with a little girl, Freya. She is our whole world! She also enjoys reading. When she learned to crawl, she would always crawl the farthest and fastest to get to her favorite books. She loves Never Touch the Dinosaurs by Rosie Greening and Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Eric Carle. We are from Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. We love the mountains! In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family. We love to travel to new places and spend time outdoors. Some of my favorite outdoor activities are: kayaking, fishing, camping, disc golfing, hiking, and geocaching.

I am looking forward to another GREAT year working with the students and families of Frederick Douglass!

“I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.” -Roald Dahl
