Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Raines

My name is Liz Raines and I grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia. I went to James Madison University where I received my undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary studies and my masters in teaching with a focus in special education. I taught in King William for 3 years, where I primarily worked with students with learning disabilities and other health impairments at the elementary and high school level. I have also taught in Stafford for 2 years and Hanover for 1 year with autism programs. The 2023-2024 school year will be my second year as a Dragon at Arcola Elementary and my 8th year in teaching. I am excited to continue my journey here with many of my same students in the upcoming year.

At the beginning of summer my husband and I welcomed a little one. It has definitely left me with many sleepless nights, but I wouldn't trade being a mom for anything. I have two golden retrievers who keep me on my toes and impatiently wait for me to return home for their daily walk. In my spare time I like escaping the real world and enjoying long hikes and camping with friends/family. Since I am originally from the Richmond area, I am also constantly making trips down south to visit my family and friends.

I can't wait to watch the progress that my students will continue to make this coming year as they continue on their academic journey. I have a passion for learning and becoming a better teacher. I know that your child will help me grow just as much as I will them. I'm eager about all the opportunities that we will get to experience this school year and know that it's going to be great!
