Kerry Benton

Welcome to Mrs. Benton’s Algebra 1 and Pre-Algebra class!

Hello, my name is Mrs. Benton. I am so excited to be a math teacher at Trailside Middle School. Prior to starting with the county, I have been a property manager/real estate agent, business owner, author, coach, and mother. While this is my fifth year with LCPS, it is my first year as a teacher. I took some time off to raise my kids, and decided to return to work once they were in high school. A friend of mine recommended I look into LCPS, and I spent four years as a Special Education TA soon after. I discovered a need for teachers who not only helped kids understand math, but who helped them love it. This prompted me to get my degree in teaching mathematics from Western Governors University.

Both of my kids now attend the University of Virginia’s Engineering School. My son is a third year, double majoring in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and minoring in material science. My daughter is a first year in the Engineering school with interests in environmental and mechanical engineering. Being their mother comes with an enthusiasm for their passions, so don’t be surprised if your kids come home with random facts about rockets or bees.

I have been married for 23 years to my husband Ryan, who is a software engineer and talented musician. We live Leesburg with our three dogs and two cats. I am also active in several community organizations, and volunteer whenever I can.

I am thrilled to be sharing the magical world of math with your students. I appreciate your trust and will do my best to spark, fan, or ignite your children’s desire to explore further.
