Ryan Tyler, Ph.D.
Director of Research, Assessment, and School Improvement
The Office of Assessment Services is responsible for division-level training and oversight of the Virginia Assessment Program, the administration of the Cognitive Abilities Test, the ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency assessment, the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, PSAT test administration and Advanced Placement (AP) test administration. We work collaboratively with the Research Office and School Improvement to provide assessment data and reports, as well as the Office of Special Education and the English Language Learners Program to ensure accurate and equitable assessment opportunities for all students.
School Improvement is the single most important business of the school. It is the process that schools use to ensure all students are achieving at high levels. “The combination of three concepts constitutes the foundation for positive improvement results: meaningful teamwork; clear, measurable goals; and the regular collection and analysis of performance data.” For more information click here.
