    Teacher Biography

I am excited to start year 9 of teaching German at LCPS..  Being able to lead and accompany students in learning a second (or third /fourth) language is one of the most fulfilling jobs I can imagine. Why?

Learning a language has proven to help students on their SATs, help them understand the global world we live in, helps students to understand and embrace diversity, and improve critical thinking.  Oh yes, and they can communicate in another language.  In the world of thousands of highly qualified applicants for colleges, admissions officers are looking more and more at the depth of language learning a student has achieved.  4 years is generally the minimum they are looking for. My desire is to have my students walk away from each and every block excited about learning German and desiring to continue with German at the college level, with some even attending college in Germany!

Having lived in Germany for 17 years, I am passionate about the language and culture and hope to pass that on to my students.  During my time in Germany, I worked with children and youth for many years.  Substituting for 10 years in Loudoun County reawakened my love for teaching.  I have my BS in Accounting from the University of Alabama (ROLL TIDE).  In August 2014, I completed the career-switcher program at Regent University and continued on to obtain my Masters in Education with a TESOL focus.

I am a Northern Virginia transplant via New Orleans, Tuscaloosa, and Hamburg, Germany.  I love the culture and opportunities that the Northern Virginia Area presents.  I am an avid sports fan and relax by watching sports, reading books, or getting together with friends.
