Jenny Shipman
Hi! My name is Jenny Shipman and this will be my 20th year of teaching special education, and my third year at Valley. Most of my career has been in elementary special education. I have taught for the last 11 years here in Loudoun County, at Horizon Elementary in Sterling, and then, just prior to LVHS, at Discovery Elementary in Ashburn. I have also previously taught in Fairfax County before my family and I moved to Loudoun County.
I take pride in working with my students and families, fostering a positive school experience, and creating a team-like feeling for the success of my students. I would describe myself as a fun, (sometimes dorky - but hey, the kids remember my lessons!) creative, and caring educator, who recognizes the importance of ALL students feeling respected, loved, included, and that they have a voice. As the parent of a child with special needs, I can relate and empathize with the families I work with.
I grew up in a small town in Central Massachusetts and graduated from Immaculata University in Pennsylvania in 2001. I am the daughter of a 34 year, middle-school teaching veteran. I watched my mother pour her heart and soul into each of her students, and I hope to live up to her memory each day with all that I do for my students.
I live in Middleburg with my husband, our 13-year-old daughter, and Hobbes, our 100 pound, Coonhound/Pitbull/Rotweiller rescue. My stepson recently got married and now we have a beautiful daughter-in-law added to our family! We enjoy renovating our 30-year-old house, yard work, gardening, and spending time as a family on the weekends.
I'm looking forward to another great year at Valley!
