Welcome to 7th Grade Science!
I am excited to be teaching 7th grade Science this year! This is my third year at Smart's Mill MS. The first two years here, I was an EL Teacher in our Science department teaching Grades 6, 7, and 8. I graduated from Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University (NSPU) with a Master's Degree in Pedagogical Education, Linguistics and Philology as well as a minor in Psychology. In my late teens and early twenties, I worked as a teacher of Foreign Languages (English (TESOL), German, and Latin) for several years until I became a fully certified interpreter and worked in the science and research industry as a part of ACDI/VOCA and USAID program initiatives.
My love for Science started back in high school when I dove into the world of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Biology (including Botany, Zoology, Anatomy, Biochemistry and Microbiology), and Physics and continued well into adulthood during college labs. I can't wait to share my passion for science and the connection of scientific discovery to the real world with my students through hands-on experience, lab work, experiments, and the PBL assignments. I currently hold a Postgraduate Professional License from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). I am constantly looking for ways to integrate new engaging teaching strategies and technology into my lessons.
If you didn't have an opportunity to stop by during the Open House event, here's a quick tour of our Science classroom.
I look forward to a great new school year full of new scientific discoveries and exploration!
