Welcome to the KWC Counseling HomepageOur school counselors provide a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program which provides all students the opportunity for classroom lessons, individual sessions, and/or small group work. We are available to consult and collaborate with families throughout the year. Students can request to visit with the counselor by filling out a slip on our doors or having their classroom teacher contact us. Parents may contact their child's counselor by calling 540-751-2540 or by sending us an email. This year, Ms Jeananne Shultz continues as the full time counselor and Ms Deb Smith joins us on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Your child may have either for their classroom lesson teacher, however we are both available for ALL students and families! In addition to the school counselors, KWC's other members of the United Mental Health Team* are Beth Wiseman (School Social Worker), Jenny Cumiskey (School Psychologist), and Megan Bichy (parent liason). The mission of the UMHT is to promote school-wide mental health initiatives within a multi-tiered system of support. The team is responsible for providing a continuum of prevention and intervention supports and services to address the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students and to remove barriers to learning in the school environment.
*The school counselor is the first point of contact for initial student concerns. The school counselor will collaborate and plan for supports with other school-based mental health team members (i.e., school psychologist, school social worker, student assistance specialist), as appropriate.
