Ms. Cindy Whetzell

I am the teacher for the self-contained ID K-5 classroom.

This is my second year at Discovery and my 10th year teaching.  I am looking forward to seeing returning students and welcoming new students to the classroom.

The college journey for me began later than most peoples.  I received my AA degree from West Virginia University, Potomac State College campus.  My BS in Social Sciences and Master of Arts in Teaching from Frostburg State University.  I dreamed of teaching 8th grade Geography but soon realized that I belonged in Special Education.  At Liberty University in 2012 I received my Master of Education in Special Education.  I truly enjoy the challenge of teaching children with special abilities and watching them achieve their potential academically and socially.  It is my goal to provide the kind of classroom that makes students want to come to school.

My daughter is a teacher in Clarke county and is beginning her 20th year.  I followed in her footsteps.  She, her husband and my grandchildren live close to us in Front Royal.  Along with spending time with my daughter and her family, I love spending time with family and friends and my two mixed breed dogs Stella and Stevie Nicks.  My husband is retired and takes very good care of me.  It's been an adventure trading places and a challenge not to correct him when he doesn't do things the way I did them.

I feel that communication between parents and teachers is needed in order for a student to be successful.  My door is always open and I love hearing from parents and caretakers.
