Dear fifth graders,
My name is Mr. Eldridge and I’m so excited to be your teacher for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year! This year is a big year, as you prepare for the transition to middle school next year.
Fifth grade comes with a lot of challenges, but also a whole lot of rewards in return. In math, we will be reviewing a lot of the skills that you practiced in fourth grade, while also extending our knowledge of these topics. Through the personalized learning model, you will be participating in many center-based activities, and opportunities that allow you to collaborate with others in small groups. In reading and writing, we will focus on a variety of texts including narrative, informative, and persuasive pieces. You will learn how to persuade others to take a stance on a position you are passionate about, how to become teachers of your own topics, and how to become “true” story tellers of small moments. We will also be doing lots of hands-on experiments this year, to help better understand how the Earth works, what cells are made of, and how living things survive in the world. We will be “traveling” to 5 different regions of the United States this year, where we will learn about what makes each region unique. We will continue to use many of the online resources used in Distance Learning such as Nearpod and Schoology, to help support our learning in the classroom.
I am so excited to meet each and every one of you, and welcome you to our new classroom family this fall! See you soon.
