Mr. Johnson is teaching U.S. and Virginia History and Government after a thirty-five-year career in politics, public affairs, and public policy. He believes that critical thinking and engagement in our nation’s history and government has never been more important than it is today, as we wrestle with issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Mr. Johnson looks forward to working with his students to explore, analyze, and think both critically and constructively about our nation and state’s history and government, along with our duty and responsibility as citizens to try and inform and shape both.
Mr. Johnson received his BA in Government from the University of Texas at Austin while serving as a staff member in the Texas State Legislature. He received his “Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies” (MA equivalent) from the University of Strasbourg and an MA in European Studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. In 2020 he received his Masters of Education from George Mason University. Mr. Johnson’s professional career includes political affairs advisor to the Japanese Government (1980s) and senior positions at the public affairs firms of Powell Tate (1990s) and Brodeur Partners (2000s).
Mr. Johnson is a father of three and grandfather of five. He has taught martial arts for over twenty years at Williams Martial Arts in Ashburn, Virginia.
