Teacher Biography
Hello! I am Susan Bell and I am happy to be teaching Biology and Chemistry this year at Freedom. I attended Wellesley College and graduated with a degree in Biology. I did research in a science lab at Massachusetts General Hospital, then earned an MEd. in Secondary Science from Boston College. After a year of teaching, I moved to Virginia and stayed home with my four children.
I taught Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Science as a long-term sub at Freedom, before beginning a program in Special Education at George Mason and becoming a special education teacher at Trailside Middle School. I have a license in special education, Middle school science, and Biology and I am working to add an endorsement in Chemistry. I want to inspire and guide students as they build connections with each other, the curriculum, and their world! I love the challenge of finding creative ways to interest students and let them show what they have learned.
I live in the Freedom area with my husband. All four of my children attended Freedom! Two have attended Virginia Tech and one is at USMA West Point. My oldest teaches for LCPS in another school. We like playing board games like Settlers of Catan, finding interesting words in the dictionary, visiting museums, and hiking. This summer, I went on road trips to visit my family and participated in volunteer service in rural West Virginia and inner-city Philadelphia.
