I am excited to join the Smart’s Mill Middle School administrative team and school community. I look forward to meeting and working with our wonderful students and their families, faculty, and staff.
I grew up with my mom and sister in Hopewell, VA (a small city south of Richmond). After graduating from Hopewell High School, I attended Virginia Tech as a first-generation college student (Go HOKIES!) and earned my degree in History and Political Science. I immediately continued at Virginia Tech to receive my Master’s degree in Education. While teaching, I also earned my Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University in 2004 and my Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech in 2016.
The 2020-21 school year begins my 21st year in education--and I cannot believe it has been that long but as they say, “time flies when you’re having fun.” I began my career as a high school social studies teacher in Chesapeake, VA. After teaching for 5 years, I began my career in administration first as an Administrative Intern at Freedom Middle School in Spotsylvania, VA. I then accepted a position as an Assistant Principal at King George Middle School in King George, VA where I served for 2 years before moving to Warrenton Middle School in Warrenton, VA where I served for 8 years. I joined Loudoun County in 2016 as an Assistant Principal at Lunsford Middle School where I served for 4 years before I was fortunate enough to become a Smart’s Mill Maverick.
I live with my wife (who I met at Virginia Tech and grew up in Warrenton, VA) and 5 children (ages 20, 18, 16, 10, and 9) in Orlean, Virginia. We have a wonderful Labradoodle, Jack, chickens in the backyard, and bears in our trash cans! We spend our time having fun as a family doing whatever sounds fun at the moment.
