Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Saundra Colantonia
Hi MCCS families! My name is Saundra Colantonio and I am thrilled to be joining MCCS this year to teach upper elementary language arts! I have a BA in Child Psychology from Christopher Newport University (Go Captains!), a Master’s in Special Education from Old Dominion University, and my Gifted Education Endorsement from the College of William and Mary.
This will be my 21st year teaching! Prior to moving to Northern Virginia, I lived in Newport News, Virginia, where I taught grades K-5 both as the gifted education and special education lead teacher. The last 7 years I have been teaching either grade 3 or 4 with Fairfax County Public Schools.
I am passionate about inquiry and project based learning, scholar-centered instruction, growth mindset, and building strong relationships with my scholars and their families. I can not wait to get to know the scholars at MCCS! I love the quote, “Its kind of fun to do the impossible” ~ Walt Disney. When my scholars hit a roadblock, my hope is to instill in them the ability to see their obstacles and challenges in this light.
I live in Berryville, Virginia with my husband and our 2 dogs, Kobe, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Nelson, a Great Dane. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, artistic bullet journaling, running, hiking, spending time with family, and exploring outdoors. I especially want to visit the National Parks!
