Fall 2021 Return to School Planning
UPDATE: On May 18, 2021, Interim Superintendent Scott Ziegler announced that Loudoun County Public Schools will return to school in the fall for five days of in-person instruction.
I am happy to announce that, beginning on the first day of school, LCPS will provide in-person, in-classroom instruction five days a week for all students for the 2021-2022 school year. Our plan is to return students and staff to in-person instruction that will provide a robust experience in a safe learning environment.
During the height of the pandemic, distance learning provided continuity of learning for our students and safety for our community. Going forward, we will build on the success of our four-day hybrid model in which the transmission of COVID between students and staff has remained low as we return students to five days of in-person instruction each week this fall.
We look forward to seeing all students return to school just as in pre-pandemic years. Our staff is committed to providing a safe school experience while following any updated guidance in place from the CDC, VDOE, and the Governor of Virginia.
LCPS realizes there may be a few families with medical concerns that would necessitate having their students continue in a distance learning model for the 2021/22 school year. For those few families which, primarily due to health reasons, may need to enroll their student in distance learning, an application process will open later this month. Distance learning in the fall will be different from this year’s learning model. I encourage you to learn more by visiting the distance learning page, and contact your elementary school principal or your middle or high school’s counseling director.
It is important to note that our classroom teachers will be teaching their in-person students. The small number of students who enroll in full-time distance learning will have dedicated teachers for their classes.

We look forward to seeing all of you in the Fall!
