• Freshman Transition Committee

The FTC meets weekly to plan and coordinate activities and events for Briar Woods High School (BWHS) freshmen and help them assimilate into the BWHS community.

We coordinate the New Student Orientation in August and also oversee the Freshman Mentoring Program. Throughout the year, we coordinate with the Student Advisory Planning Team (SAPT) to on advisory material specifically aimed at helping freshmen:

    • understand high school expectations
    • know the resources available to them at BWHS
    • find out how to get involved in the BWHS community
    • figure out how to navigate high school and make the best use of their time at BWHS
  • Freshman Mentor Program

Students must have attended BWHS for at least one year to apply to be a Freshman Mentor. Freshman Mentors participate in the Freshman Orientation in August, serve as a point of contact for their assigned freshman mentees, and co-facilitate Freshman Advisory meetings (for their assigned mentees) with a Faculty Advisor.

Applications to be a Freshman Mentor for the 2021-2022 year are now closed. Please check back in February 2022 if you are interested in being a mentor. If you would like to find out other ways you can participate and support our Freshman Falcons, please e-mail Mrs. Foster at efoster@lcps.org.
