Mrs. Angela Barbero
Greetings!
My name is Mrs. Angela Barbero. I am very excited to be part of the 5th grade team! For the 2023-2024 school year, I will be entering my 18th year as a professional educator of emerging bilinguals.
Learning is a life- long journey and I am a life-long learner. I attended Mary Washington, Marymount University, and George Washington University. As Mr. Rogers said, "It's good to be curious about many things."
When I am away from school, I enjoy reading, trying new kinds of cuisine, going to the beach, and spending time with my family.
I am very fortunate to be a part of our community and I am truly looking forward to working with our fantabulous (fantastic/fabulous) 5th grade students.
As author Amy Chua said, “Never complain or make excuses. If something seems unfair, just prove yourself by working twice as hard and being twice as good.” I also believe that relationships are the absolute key to success.

I taught in Fairfax county for 14 years and came to Sully 10 years ago. I grew up in Loudoun County and went to Rolling Ridge as an elementary school student. Mrs. Nina Neal
I am from Maryland. I went to the University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terps!), that is where I got my B.S. in Family Studies. I have lived in Virginia for the last 10 years. I have 2 kids that go to school in Loudoun County and I have really loved working and having kids in this county.
I have always worked with children. I was a preschool/Pre K teacher for 7 years. After teaching for a few years I was promoted to Director of Finance for the school I was working at, but I missed teaching after 3 years. I decided to make a small career change into the public school system. I received my teaching license from Shenandoah University in EL. This is my second year at Sully and it has been like a second home. The students and families have been great to work with. I look forward to many years teaching your students and helping them become the best they can be!
I have worked with Kindergarten the last year and this year. I believe that young children learn through hands-on activities, especially when they are learning a new language. I strive to provide that for all my English Language students. If you have any questions or would like to reach out to me, my email is nina.neal@lcps.org. You can also find me in room 404 & 405. I am looking forward to having a wonderful year of learning and growing in Kindergarten!

Mrs. Mareen Georgie Thayil
Hey Hornet Families!
My name is Mareen Georgie Thayil, and I am excited to be part of the English Learners team at Sully Elementary.
As a student in a country where knowing English was a rare symbol of intelligence, I became passionate about helping others learn the language and better integrate into the English - dominated world we live in today. Later in my life, I also began teaching, where I discovered my love for helping children fully grow into functioning members of society.
I have been an educator for 10 years. I have taught elementary and secondary ages. I have been in LCPS for 2 years and this is my First year as a teacher. I am looking forward to it!
Some of my other loves include baking, gardening and hiking with family. I typically find myself searching for new cookie recipes, trails to hike on, or flowers to plant in my garden.
Feel free to reach out for any questions!
