I am honored to be the Dean at Tolbert Elementary School! My name is Melissa Mehalchick and I am joining the Tolbert family with 13 years experience in teaching and leadership. I have taught 6th and 4th grade in FCPS at West Springfield Elementary. After many years there, I opened Kyle Wilson Elementary in PWCS teaching 4th and 1st grade. This summer, my family and I moved to Loudoun County where I began teaching 4th grade at Dominion Trail Elementary.
I am originally from Pennsylvania (E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!) where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Scranton. After moving to Virginia with my high school sweetheart, I earned my Master's Degree in Administration from Old Dominion University. My husband, James (HERE WE GO, STEELERS!) and our 2 daughters, Marcella and Mila, reside in Aldie with our 2 boxers, Vino and Shine. We enjoy the beach, camping, football season, pre-school learning, singing lullaby's, and making S'mores by the fire.
As an educational leader, my goal is to encourage and develop leaders within the school community and create an environment where all students feel they belong and have the opportunity to be their personal best. I value the relationships that I build with my students, staff, and families. As a leader I believe these relationships foster trust, understanding, and respect among everyone.
I am so grateful to be a family member at Tolbert, and am looking forward to a fun, meaningful, and memorable year with you all!
It's OUR day to be BRILLIANT!
