My passion is supporting students and teachers of mathematics. I joined the teaching staff at Seneca Ridge in November of 2019 after spending a year on the road supporting teachers of math around the U.S. Now, I get to fulfill my desire to work with English Language Learners in math in grades 6 - 8.
I bring with me 23 years of experience in education starting with 10 years as a classroom teacher and 3 years as a Math Coach in California; then 2 years of serving as a Math Resource Teacher here in Northern Virginia before getting my 1st Consulting contract to work as a Math Director in the state of Hawaii for a year. I have since taken time over the past 8 years to apply all that I learn and teach when I am in a consulting role to becoming a better Math Teacher and I now believe I am ready to serve as an effective teacher of students who are also English Language Learners.
Outside of school, I am just as nerdy as I am in school! I read a lot about how to be a better teacher and write about strategies that I have found to be effective in helping students understand and learn mathematics. Afterall, I am not a good teacher of math because it came easy to me; I am good at helping students understand because I remember all of the misconceptions and mistakes I have held in my journey to learn mathematics.
I look forward to using all of my skills to support our students here at SRMS and grow as a learner as well.
