    School Counseling Program Vision & Mission Statements
    The vision of Blue Ridge Middle School Counseling Department is to engage and empower students to learn necessary skills that produce productive citizens within their community and world.
    The mission of Blue Ridge Middle School Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive program in which students achieve success through identifying individual needs of all students we help to create a learning environment that allows all students to achieve.  In collaboration with administrators, staff, parents, students, and community we strive to foster a positive school climate in which the personal/social, emotional, and academic needs of our students are met.
    What does a School Counselor Do?
    • Works with students individually and in groups
    • Provides classroom lessons for all students on a variety of socioemotional and academic topics
    • Responds to student needs in crisis situations
    • Orients students to new school settings 
    • Works with absentees and other at-risk students
    • Participates actively in the referral process of students to special programs/services
    • Participates in the referral process to services and agencies out of school
    • Coordinates student interventions with other school specialists and support staff
    • Conducts conferences with parents
    • Helps with individual school, college, and career plans
    • Schedules students for courses
