Mr. Shaffer, Dave
Mr. Shaffer serves as the Principal of River Bend Middle School in Sterling, Virginia. He received two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Cedarville University, one in Sports Management and one in Health and Physical Education. He received his Master’s in Educational Leadership from Shenandoah University and has a Pre-K-12 Administration and Supervision endorsement. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate for Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech University. Mr. Shaffer has served as the Principal of River Bend Middle School since 2014. For the past 20 years, he has worked in Loudoun County Public Schools as a teacher and administrator focused on creating innovative schools for 21st century learners. His leadership at Smart’s Mill Middle School and River Bend Middle School has been instrumental in both schools being named as a National School to Watch. In 2009, Mr. Shaffer was recognized as a Leesburg Today's 30 under 30 award winner for Loudoun County, Virginia. Additionally, Mr. Shaffer was recognized as one of the 2018 Loudoun County’s 40 under 40 professionals by Loudoun Now. In addition, to his role as a school principal, Mr. Shaffer also serves as the Virginia Middle School Association’s Region IV Director. He has worked for the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform as the Schools to Watch Site Visit Coordinator for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Locally, he serves as a member of the Educational Advisory Counsel for the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation. Mr. Shaffer has presented at various state and national conferences including the Association for Middle Level Education, the Virginia Middle School Association, the National Schools to Watch, Inspire Loudoun, Blended Learning Universe, and the Virginia Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Mr. Shaffer was nominated as the 2018 NASSP Digital Principal of the year. Finally, Mr. Shaffer was recognized as the 2019 Educator of the Year from the Virginia Middle Schools Association.
In his free time, Mr. Shaffer likes to spend time with his wife and three children. He enjoys running, biking, reading, traveling, and watching the UNC Tarheels and the Washington Redskins.
