The Independence High School Black Student Union is an organization of members who are interested or already share a love for black culture. Our goal is to promote a positive and productive representation of the African American community through:
- Celebration of black culture
- Engaging in discussions designed to help foster a better understanding of experiences and issues that impact African American students
- Empowering students to be powerful, positive agents of change in the school and community
- Educating student in black history
- Promoting academic excellence
- Providing outreach opportunities to build connections within the county

This club is student governed with faculty supervision, support and sponsorship. All students are invited to be a part of the club regardless of racial and/or cultural differences. New members are welcome to join at any time throughout the school year.
