    COURSE TITLE:

    Performance Ensemble I (Grades 9-12)

    PREREQUISITE:

    DESCRIPTION:

    This class requires a recommendation and/or audition by the band director. The

    student will continue the in-depth study of the basic fundamentals of music to

    include the areas of symbolism, notation, reading, rhythmic and melodic drill,

    theory and music theory. The band is performance oriented and will be involved

    in concert appearances and Virginia Music Educators Association events. As a

    co-curricular ensemble, performances and rehearsals outside regular school hours

    are a requirement.

    COURSE TITLE:

    Performance Ensemble II (Grades 9-12)

    PREREQUISITE:

    DESCRIPTION:

    This class requires a recommendation and/or audition by the band director.

    Musicianship requirements will include advanced knowledge of scale

    fundamentals, interpretation skills, good tone production and advanced

    instrumental techniques. Students will be expected to expand their skills and

    knowledge of instrumental techniques, tone production, musical interpretation,

    and ensemble/solo performance. This ensemble is performance oriented and will

    be active in concert appearances, county events, and Virginia Music Educators

    Association events. As a co-curricular ensemble, performances and rehearsals

    outside regular school hours are a requirement.

    This class requires a recommendation and/or audition by the band director. The

    student will study the basic fundamentals of jazz to include the areas of

    interpretation, improvisation, reading, theory, and other techniques idiomatic of

    jazz performance. The Jazz Ensemble is performance oriented and will be

    involved in concert appearances at the discretion of the director. As a cocurricular

    ensemble, performances and rehearsals outside regular school hours

    are a requirement.
