As I enter my third year at Newton-Lee, I am excited to work with all students and families as this year's dean. Prior to this year, I served the community as a first grade teacher.
I graduated from Longwood University in 2003, and started my teaching career at Sterling Elementary School, teaching second grade. While teaching, I received a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from George Mason University. After five years in the classroom, I persued an opportunity to support the Pathways to Reading and Writing curriculum for LCPS. In this role, I was able to train and coach teachers in the best practices of reading and writing instruction.
After several years of watching and learning from amazing teachers across our county, I decided that I missed the classroom. I began teaching first grade at Ball's Bluff Elementary School, and I taught there for four years. During that time, my children were happily attending Newton-Lee, as my family lives in the community. A position in first grade became available, and I was so excited to join this amazing staff and school community.
I currently live in Belmont with my husband, Brad, and our two children, Jack (11) and Hannah (8). I love to spend time reading, going to the movies, visiting the beach, and just being with my family.
I am so excited to support the students, staff, and families in this new role, and I can't wait for an amazing year!
