Ms. Andrea Bird
Special Education Dean
Welcome to Independence High School! I am incredibly grateful to be a member of this school community and serve as the Special Education Dean.
I came to Independence High School from Potomac Falls High School where I was the Special Education Department Chair and taught Algebra I and Functions and Data Analysis. Prior to beginning my teaching career, I attended Old Dominion University, where I received a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies PreK-6. It wasn’t until I became an assistant teacher that I realized my true passion was working with the special education population. I earned my Masters Degree in Special Education at Shenandoah University in the Spring of 2016!
I believe that one component of a child’s education that is critical in helping them succeed is the communication that is held between the teacher and the parent(s)/guardian(s). It is also my belief that the more support I have from parents and guardians, the more our students will benefit. On that note, please do not hesitate to ever get in touch with me through email (Andrea.Bird@lcps.org) or by phone at 571-367-4200.
