A message from LUNSFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL
Good evening JML families!
The countdown is on- just 9 days left until school starts for the 2019-2020 year! Our counselors, deans and secretaries returned last week and we are excited to welcome our teachers back this Wednesday. We want to be sure we are communicating all necessary information so you and your student can transition smoothly into another school year.
*August 19th- this is the big day- schedules will be visible in ParentVUE and/or can be picked up in person. We encourage students to practice following their schedule by walking the building. Students will also be able to set up and decorate lockers. Please follow the scheduled times as closely as you can as we will once again open as the largest middle school in the county.
~1-2:30 pm 6th grade students with last names beginning with A-L
~2:30-4pm 6th grade students with last names beginning with M-Z
~5-8 pm 7th and 8th grade students
If you ordered a SchoolKidz supply kit from the school, they will be available for pick up on the 19th in the cafeteria. Our PTA will also be on hand selling memberships, JML water bottles, and taking spiritwear orders. In addition, the school will have staff members available to assist you in setting up your ParentVUE access and reports, as well as ordering PE uniforms.
*If you would like to pre-order your child's PE uniform, please use the following link. As a reminder, LCPS no longer charges a fee for using your credit card! Uniforms will arrive the first week of school and will be distributed through class. https://osp.osmsinc.com/LoudounVA/BVModules/CategoryTemplates/Detailed%20List%20with%20Properties/Category.aspx?categoryid=DB058
*As a reminder to our 6th grade parents, vaccination requirements from the state of VA have changed. The Tdap shot is now required before your child enters 7th grade. If you have already had your child immunized, please feel free to bring the documentation with you to the schedule pick up, Back To School Night or scan and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. This will now be one item you can check off of your "to-do" list!
*Ms. Becky Keenan, our school nurse, is offering the following hours as open medication drop-off times:
*Please see the attached letter from Ken Bolton from our Excellent Options club inviting parents to an interest meeting for the new year. We hope to see many of our families involved in this amazing organization!
*The county will once again sponsor a "Virtual 1st day packet" and parents should access their ParentVUE accounts to electronically acknowledge familiar school documents. We do plan to send students home with a paper packet from our PTA on the first day of school.
*As you are making your plans for the school year, please note that as of right now, transportation is telling us that there will be no bus passes allowed to be issued as all buses are at capacity. We want to be sure our students know this as well, as it breaks our hearts when they want to go home with friends on a different bus and we need to say no. Throughout the year, this may change, so please be sure to call ahead and ask if a particular bus has room.
*Our bell schedule has changed slightly this year due to a change in day/time for our Lions' Den advisory class as well as the implementation of recess during the lunch shifts. Please see the attached- the schedule will be posted on our website shortly. Students will start their day in block 1- this is a CHANGE from what 6th graders were told at Lions Leap! We will have plenty of staff members on the 22nd reminding students where to go!
*If your child has an IEP, please join us on Tuesday, August 20th at 7pm for a "Meet your Case Manager" event. Personal invitations are being sent to homes.
