Master in Special Education

Mrs. Van Horn

My name is Mrs. Van Horn and I will be your child’s Resource teacher this year! This is my 9th year at Arcola and I'm very excited to be back. I am a native to Loudoun County where I grew up and now raise my children.

I obtained my undergraduate and Master’s Degree in Special Education from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Throughout college I substitute taught children with multiple learning disabilities. In addition, I was an assistant teacher at a private school. Post-graduation, I was a teacher assistant at George Mason Middle School in Falls Church, working with students with multiple disabilities, including students with ED/LD/MR and autism. I began teaching in Fairfax County Public Schools as the MR/Autism teacher for grades 3rd-5th.  I then moved to Loudoun and opened Mercer Middle School in Stone Ridge, where I taught students with learning and emotional disabilities and later I ran the ED/Autism program.

I have had the privilege of staying home with my three wonderful children these past several years. I have a 16 year old daughter, Reese, a 14 year old daughter, Regan and an  year old boy, Reid. My husband and I live in the Willowsford Community, just minutes from Arcola Elementary. While staying at home I taught private tutoring, ran my own preschool program out of my house and worked for K12, a home- based curriculum-company writing IEPs for students with disabilities.

In my spare time I enjoy exercising, reading and spending time with my family. We love attending our children’s sports activities, traveling, and watching them grow.

I am very excited for a fun, stimulating and structured school year with your child. Please come to me anytime, as my door is always open.

My email is jenny.VanHorn@lcps.org.

Here’s to a fabulous year!
