Teacher Biography
My name is Eric Adams and I will be teaching English 9H and English 12A this year. I'll also be serving as the sponsor of the National English Honor Society and the Mindfulness Meditation Club.
I’m originally from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the home of world renowned artists Herman Melville, Norman Rockwell, James Taylor, and Peter Gordon. A fateful family trip to Washington DC when I was in 7th grade changed my worldview and my life. I left a freshly fallen 2.5 feet of March snow in the Berkshires and discovered blooming flowers and sunny, 60-degree weather in our nation’s capital. Memories of that experience stayed with me as I began making decisions about life after high school and, in an effort to escape the icy, cold Berkshire winters, I enrolled at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland, where I received a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing.
I returned to Goucher College in 2009 and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching. I then began my teaching career at a small, independent school in Alexandria, Virginia. During my tenure there, I taught English 9, 10 and 11, Writing 8, 9, 10, and 12, and served as the Language Arts Department chair and Coordinator of Faculty Mentorship.
I enrolled in the Education Leadership program at George Mason University and finished my coursework in the summer of 2019. After moving to Ashburn, I began looking for opportunities to teach in Loudoun County so that I could effect change in my local community. I’m excited to continue this work at Freedom High School and look forward to a great year!
Please feel free to connect with me if you have any questions or would like to discuss my educational philosophy and approach.
