My name is Eric Adams and I am teaching Honors English 11 and Academic English 12 for the 2019/20 school year.
I’m originally from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the home of Herman Melville. A fateful family trip to Washington DC when I was in 7th grade changed my worldview and my life. I left a freshly fallen 2.5 feet of March snow in the Berkshires and discovered blooming flowers and sunny, 60-degree weather in the nation’s capital. I remembered that trip and that beautiful early spring feeling during my junior and senior year as I was making decisions about college and beyond. In an effort to escape the icy cold Berkshire winters, I enrolled at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland where I received a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing.
I returned to Goucher College in 2009 and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching. I then began my teaching career at a small, independent school in Alexandria, Virginia. During my tenure there, I taught English 9, 10 and 11, Writing 8, 9, 10, and 12, and served as the Writing Department chair and Coordinator of Faculty Mentorship.
I enrolled in the Education Leadership program at George Mason University, and just finished my coursework in the summer of 2019. After moving to Ashburn, I began looking for opportunities to teach in Loudoun County so that I could effect change in my local community. I’m excited to join Freedom High School and look forward to a great year!
Please feel free to connect with me if you have any questions or would like to discuss my educational philosophy and approach.
