Miss Liubov Torsell

Welcome new and returning families of Trailside Middle School!

I am very excited to be joining the Trailside teaching team this year as a new ELL specialist.

I am originally from Russia where I grew up and attended school. I graduated from Ryazan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and German Linguistics. I have taught English at a middle school level and did student teaching at a university level back in Russia. Teaching has been my passion since I was pretty young and I was always fascinated with English language and culture. As a student I had opportunities to travel to the USA through a summer student program, and decided to move to this country after earning my degree.

I moved to Loudoun county in August 2007 and I am happy to call this place my home.  I have earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Northern Virginia Community College and worked in preschool setting for a couple of years until I had my own son, and decided to take a break and spend as much time with him as possible while he is so young. I have volunteered during these years as an ELL teacher at adult classes at the church, but now that my son is starting kindergarten, I am looking forward to working full time with middle school children, and getting to know this wonderful age group better. I hope my personal experience of being a foreigner will help me to connect with my students on a deeper level, and I will do my absolute best to make them feel welcome and open up their full potential.

I am a very active and social person, and enjoy doing so many different activities in my free time. I love nature walks and hiking with a progressing level of difficulty as my son grows up. I am an avid theater goer and a big fan of musicals and try to attend as many shows as I can. Above all that, I love staying active and can’t imagine my life without Zumba, ice skating, dancing, and running to chase my son when he is riding the bicycle. Travelling is a big part of my life and I absolutely enjoy visiting new places and discovering new adventures. I have traveled across the United States and I try to go back to Russia every year to visit my family who lives there.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and having a fantastic year ahead of us.
