Social SciencesWelcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I am delighted to be joining the Department of Social Science and Global Studies at Riverside High and teaching AP US and Comparative Government and Economics this year. Although my first year teaching in Loudoun County, I am beginning my 6th year as a secondary educator in the field of social studies after previously teaching in Maryland. I highly look forward to inspiring and guiding students to become active and caring citizens with the skills necessary for college and career readiness. As for my educational philosophy, I think it is simply summed up in a quote by the great Irish poet W.B. Yeats: "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire".
Regarding my educational and professional background, I received a M.Ed. in Social Science Education from the University of Georgia with a student teaching experience in Mexico City, Mexico. I also graduated from UGA with a BA in Sociology, Magna Cum Laude and 30 additional credits of graduate coursework in the field of Sociology. Along my professional way, I have taught students from middle school to the undergraduate level in college. Outside of teaching, I spent many years in higher educational administration at NYU, GMU, GWU, and The Catholic University of America. As the daughter of two high school English teachers, I can state without a doubt that I have found my career home as a high school classroom educator, although writing poetry is as close to the subject area of English that I have found myself. My 2019-20 Schedule: ROOM LOCATION L404/STUDY HALL-AUDITORIUM
