Mrs. Malarcher

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Hi, Trailblazers! My name is Suzanne (Suzy) Malarcher (otherwise known as Mrs. M.) and I can’t wait to begin another year at Discovery Elementary! This year marks my 9th year in the classroom and my 18th in the field of education. I have taught preschool through 2^nd grade and 2^nd grade is certainly my favorite!  

I received both my Bachelor’s and Master of Education in Early Childhood and Childhood Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. I’m originally from a rural town just south of Syracuse and stayed in the area until a job at the National Association for the Education of Young Children led me to DC.

I have a wonderful husband and three beautiful children; Julia (9), Jack (7), and William (5). My kids will be Trailblazers this year, too! We also have a cockapoo named Lana and a long-legged labradane named Dexter. 

Outside of the classroom, I love to read, crochet, and do anything that allows me to be creative. I also write for a local online publication and enjoy being able to explore the area with my children (we love tracking down our favorite food trucks and going to the Farmer’s Market!) Julia, Jack, and Will play ice-hockey and you can find us at the rink many evenings, too! I grew up playing ice-hockey and am glad my kids are following in my footsteps.

I am constantly learning and growing as a teacher and am extremely lucky to be a part of the Discovery Elementary team. I’m looking forward to creating a welcoming and safe environment, while developing the partnerships necessary to our students’ learning and success. Let’s make it a fantastic year!
