Now back to an introduction: I enjoy technology and engineering, but mostly enjoy working with middle-school aged students. In fact, I am the mother of a middle-school aged son and I find this stage of development to be extraordinarily exciting as young people are beginning to explore their independence and develop critical thinking skills.
I came to Belmont Ridge as a "career switcher" after spending several years out of the paid labor force to care for my son. Prior to being a "stay-at-home" mom, I was a university professor. While I have found a few similarities between teaching university students and 7th graders, for the most part my former and current careers offer differing challenges and rewards. In my role as a middle-school teacher, I like to think I am having a positive impact on the development of young persons' cognitive development as well as preparing them for their futures in the workforce.

7th Grade Technology & Engineering Google Sites
Here you will find the Google Sites Ms. Lucas-Fields and I use in our 7th grade Tech Ed classes. The link will take you directly to the Sites' homepage where you can read about class expectations. If you look at the left side of the site you'll see that there are slideshows for each unit. The slideshows contain embedded videos that enhance student learning as well as hands-on demonstrations of how students are to go about completing their projects (e.g., the steps for building model rockets and 8 inch towers made of balsa wood).
