Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Melissa Fye
Welcome to Gifted Resource Education at John W. Tolbert Elementary School.
My name is Ms. Melissa Fye and I will be the Gifted Education resource teacher for the 2020-21 school year at Tolbert Elementary. I will be providing thinking skill instruction and GT identification in kindergarten through third grade (SEARCH program), as well as facilitating learning for identified GT 4th and 5th grade students as a resource teacher. GT Resource is a school-based Gifted Education Program for formally identified 4th grade and 5th grade students in Loudoun County Public Schools (formerly called FUTURA).
This is my 11th year facilitating gifted education in LCPS and I've taught for a total of 16 years. I am a product of Loudoun County Public Schools (long, long ago) and was a member of FUTURA, SPECTRUM and SLP while in attendance. My previous experience includes teaching FUTURA (4th & 5th grade GT site-based gifted education program in LCPS), 2nd and 4th grades in LCPS, and co-teaching a 5th grade GT, Level 4 classroom in Fairfax County. James Madison University is my undergraduate alma mater, where I graduated with a double major and criminology concentration; and I attended Marymount University for graduate school. I obtained my GT endorsement through the University of Virginia in 2004. As a Loudoun County native, I enjoy all the region has to offer including kayaking, hiking, and artistic endeavors like mid-century design. I am a mother to two boys who both attend middle school in LCPS. Recently, I moved out of my comfort zone to get certified as a PADI open water SCUBA diver. I have a strong internal drive for lifelong learning and hope to inspire your child to do the same.
