Jessica Kirkland

Jessica Kirkland is thrilled to be joining the wonderful English team at Rock Ridge for the 2018-2019 school year. She is originally from Georgia, but has lived with her family in Loudoun County since 2011 (and loves it here!) Mrs. Kirkland is the proud mother of two little girls and a graduate of Georgia Southern University and Shenandoah University. She came to teaching after having her two children and loves it so much, she's mad she wasn't doing this all along.

Mrs. Kirkland is a super-early morning person, often waking up before 4 am. She loves to have music playing in the classroom during passing periods and independent work time and nobody can make her laugh harder than her students. When she's not in the classroom, Mrs. Kirkland is usually working through a long (LONG) reading list of YA fiction, spending time with her family and trying to convince her daughters they do not want to go to Atomic Trampoline. She is an avid reader and writer and is passionate about helping students develop their own reading life by finding books that speak to them and honing their unique writing voice. If you need a book recommendation- ask her!

Mrs. Kirkland is an ardent fan of Prince and proudly displays a poster of him made by Mrs. Newman's husband in her classroom.
