Greetings! My name is Heather Colon and I am so unbelievably excited to make my return back to teaching at Cool Spring Elementary! I was previously a Loudoun County teacher for seven years; three years as a Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher at Lowes Island Elementary and four years at Buffalo Trail Elementary as a Muli-Grade Self-Contained ED Teacher and as a 4th Grade Gen. Ed. Classroom Teacher. I took a little break from LCPS to stay at home to raise my beautiful baby Rosalee (Rosie) who is now three. I also am a step-mother to two older girls, Lexi who is 15 and Lianna who is 17.
I am originally from Upstate NY (Rochester Area). I grew up in teeny tiny cow-town where everyone knew each other. It’s from that type of upbringing where I really learned kindness and how to be ‘good to thy neighbor’. I love instilling that same theme in my classroom and I do focus a LOT on kindness and enforcing that character trait amongst my students. I graduated with a dual Undergrad Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from St. Bonaventure University in NY. I then moved to Virginia in 2008 where I went onto completing my Master’s Degree through Capella University in Educational Psychology.
I love fitness and healthy eating/cooking. I train and compete in fitness competitions all over the DMW area, so the kids in my class may learn a thing or two about health, determination, and goal-setting J I’m also a fan of rainbows and unicorns as evidenced by my classroom décor.
Thank you to the staff, students and parents for welcoming me to Cool Spring! Let’s have a great school year!
