Mr. Maher earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from West Virginia University and attended Central Washington University and Shenandoah University for graduate school. Mr Maher has been a teacher for over 25 years and has taught in both Loudoun County Public Schools and Fairfax County Public Schools. During his teaching career he has taught Advanced Placement U.S. History, Advanced Placement Economics, Advanced Placement U.S./Va.  Government, Sociology, International Relations, and U.S/ Va. History.
