Welcome to the new school year!

I am so excited to start my first year at Trailside Middle School in 8th Grade English. I’ve spent the last few years teaching reading and comprehension, and can’t wait to contribute to each students’ literacy journey.

I grew up in Oakton, Virginia and attended Smith College in Massachusetts where I studied Sociology and Education. After graduation, I returned to Northern Virginia to earn my Master of Education in Special Education. I’m an avid reader and spend every summer reading just about as many books as I possibly can. I love fiction and some of my favorite authors include Barbara Kingsolver, Louise Erdrich, and Harper Lee.

Other than school and reading, I love to spend time outside of Northern Virginia, especially in Rehoboth Beach (where I’ve spent almost every summer since I’ve been 7) and exploring western Virginia. I'm also a huge animal and rescue advocate. My goals this year include helping each student find literature that is meaningful to them and to show students how reading and writing is relevant not only to their lives, but across content areas.

I can’t wait to meet everyone and look forward to a wonderful school year!
