About Me (Miss Merriman)

I began teaching at Heritage in 2011 but have been teaching for 20 years now. I graduated from Christopher Newport University in 1993 with a BA in Political Science, where I also ran track and cross country, and was sports editor one year for The Captain's Log. After that, I worked with a grassroots political activist group, in the banking industry, retail management, as well as in my home town school district. I am a dually licensed teacher and completed my coursework at CNU and the University of Virginia. This year I am teaching Government and World History I. I am also the head track and cross country coach at Heritage.

FAQs

  • If you are absent, please e-mail Miss Merriman THAT DAY and check google classroom as well as the missed hanging file (upon your return). It is your responsibility to find out what you missed and to arrange make up.

  • Students need certain materials every day to be successful participants in the learning experience. For my class, students will be expected to bring with them, every day, their binder (1.5-2”), pen/ pencil, highlighter, and loose-leaf paper. Most days they will also need their school-issued Chromebook (or personal laptop if they are using that instead).

  • Most course materials will be in Google Classroom although we may still use Vision IN CLASS from time to time.

  • If you need help with this class, please see Miss Merriman (my whereabouts can be found on the door of L402). You may also see Mr. Hastings for World History 1 or Mrs. Petersen for Government.
